The Company Our Statement
We are looking into a joyful and peaceful world with homes and work places adorned with sensibly, beautifully and respectfully crafted high quality functional furniture and accessories. LIGHTWORKS was setup as an initiative to realize a dream of crafting furniture and accessories that will bring beauty and joy to those who behold and live with the pieces that will be reminders of nature's bounty, the vastness of human potential and the interconnectedness of all forms of life.
 
 

Our Story
LIGHTWORKS started as a hobby of a Naturopathic physician and Yoga teacher whose fascination for wood led him to study woodworking in Germany and to do extensive research. He and his wife who has the same professions plus a degree and experience in business management, work together with a group of skilled and unskilled craftsmen from one of the Philippines’ most depressed province to make the furniture for a natural health restaurant which they and a group of friends owned. An atelier was born, making furniture, bowls and boxes were hand hewn from choice of Narra timber using traditional joinery and finished with a patina brought about by layers and layers of patiently rubbed-on beeswax polish of the company’s own formulation. This limited edition production is nurtured by the company as its GOLD VAULT line.

Requests from local and foreign clients led to restoration of historical and heirloom pieces as well as reproduction of special classic furniture based on original working drawings sourced from museums.

The Company joined an international trade fair to test the export waters in 1989. Realizing that limited production and the resultant price points are not the most effective recipe for export, the Company developed product lines using adequately kiln dried plantation and non-endangered timber, indigenous vines, and fiberboard while keeping its edge in design, technology and finishes. In 1997 the accessories line was expanded to include earthenware vessels that are noticed for their design, finish and functionality. The founders of the Company together with a group of design, research and technical staff and consultants work with craftspeople of varying levels of skills. These products are exported to big and small buyers from many countries.

Our Finishes
Surface preparation as mentioned earlier, LIGHTWORKS built its name by reviving and improving on the traditional beeswax polish for its precious timber pieces. Wood furniture and accessories are varnished without covering the wood grain. Metal leafing, metallic colours and faux finishes were introduced in 1998 on wood furniture as well as on wood, earthenware and metal accessories.

Our Production Capability
With the present workforce and sub-contractors, we can roll-out two (2) containers a week. When our on-going expansion of facilities is completed, we will be able to initially double our capacity with more production self-reliance. The expanded facilities will allow for further volume expansion.
